{"id":26,"date":"2018-04-05T12:07:26","date_gmt":"2018-04-05T11:07:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nathaliegriffin.com\/?page_id=26"},"modified":"2025-04-16T11:57:29","modified_gmt":"2025-04-16T10:57:29","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.nathaliegriffin.com\/?page_id=26","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-228 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nathaliegriffin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_20191015_133230127-300x242.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"242\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nathaliegriffin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_20191015_133230127-300x242.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nathaliegriffin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_20191015_133230127.jpg 556w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I decided to re-train as a counsellor in 2008, after a health problem prevented me from doing the job I had been doing for years: bookkeeper, office manager and fundraiser for several small charities including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tdpf.org.uk\/\">Transform Drug Policy Foundation<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/communityresolve.com\/\">Community Resolve<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.havendistribution.org.uk\/\">Haven Books to Prisoners<\/a>.<br \/>\nMaking such a big change was frightening, but now I&#8217;d say it&#8217;s the best thing that could have happened to me. I find being a counsellor incredibly rewarding and I&#8217;m always humbled by the courage and strength of the people I meet doing this work.<\/p>\n<p>I have worked (in some cases, as a volunteer) for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womankindbristol.org.uk\/\">Womankind Helpline<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theswanproject.co.uk\/\">SWAN Project<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/addictionrecovery.org.uk\/\">Addiction Recovery Agency<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bdp.org.uk\/\">Bristol Drugs Project<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.counsellingforsocialchange.org.uk\/\">Counselling for Social Change<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/southmeadproject.org.uk\/\">Southmead Project<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamcare.org.uk\/\">GamCare, <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sarsas.org.uk\/\">SARSAS<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hopeathome.org.uk\/\">Hope at Home.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I also taught counselling at City of Bristol College, including the Level 2 Introduction to Counselling Concepts course, as well as the Addiction and Reflective Practice modules at Level 5. In early 2019, I ran a one-day course at <a href=\"https:\/\/network.org.uk\/\">Network Counselling and Training<\/a> about working with addiction in a person-centred way.<\/p>\n<p>I currently work as an external supervisor for <a href=\"https:\/\/one25.org.uk\/\">One25 <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/caringinbristol.co.uk\/\">Caring in Bristol.<\/a><br \/>\nI work as clinical supervisor with several counsellors working in private practice.<\/p>\n<p>All of my current one-to-one counselling work is in private practice.<\/p>\n<p>In my work, I have also learned a great deal about people&#8217;s struggle to live with difficult, sometimes traumatic, experiences.
